1.25 Billion Animals Have Died in Australia's Wildfires - Here Are Organizations To Support

The wildfires in Australia are devastating. There’s luckily a lot of publicity about the fires now, but there are a bunch of small organizations that aren’t getting as much attention. These volunteer-run non-profits are working tirelessly to find injured animals, distribute food to starving creatures, and providing medical care to the injured and orphaned wildlife. I’ve spent hours looking for the small organizations that are struggling to get funds to support their work. So, I want to share the resources I found and encourage you to help the rescue and rehabilitation efforts with a monetary donation.

The amount of destruction is unheard of and even though the fires have been burning for months, there’s no sign of the flames letting up. Ecologists at the University of Sydney estimate that a billion animals have died and WWF-Australia estimates 1.25 Billion. That’s absolutely mind-boggling. So many more are in need of help and there are amazing people out there working to fight the flames, rescue the animals, and provide safety for the displaced residents. I hope my list below helps you contribute.

In an effort to create as little friction as possible, I’m linking directly to the donation pages of each organization and not cluttering this post with links to their social or primary websites. Just the donation links. I encourage you to read more about each of them to see where your donation is going. The Facebook pages of these organizations tend to have the best updates on the work they are going. Get some tissues ready before clicking around.

Don’t forget the currency exchange rate. These websites are all taking donations in Australian dollars, so if you give $50 AUD that will actually be a donation of $35 USD. And $50 USD would be a donation of $73 AUD.

Australian Animal Rescue Organizations To Support:

I’ll point out that many of these organizations could benefit from even just $5 to go towards medical supplies, food, and water. But do keep in mind that organizations incur credit card processing fees, have to take the time to deposit and spend the funds, and send thank you notes. On top of it, the current AUD to USD exchange rate is 0.686548. So your $5 USD donation might not do a lot for the organizations. If $5 is all you have and you want to give, please do! But if you only have $25, consider giving to one organization instead of $5 to five.
