Weekly Roundup

Polly Fern

I’m smitten with these beautifully painted ceramics from Polly Fern. I’m trying to figure out where I could display them - I’m a sucker for the candle sconces!

We’ve been watching the show Better Things from our newly relocated TV and loving it. Have you tuned in? I recommend!

I’ve completely ruined all of my pajama pants. Just the other day I sat directly on a wet paint can lid in my PJs. So, I got these pajamas which pass as joggers, so I can even wear them out on a neighborhood walk or to the grocery store without feeling like I’m in PJs.

This 25-minute long video of a guy playing what looks to be an impossible game of Sudoku sounds like it would be wildly boring. But it was actually really charming.

50 ways to be more sustainable that have nothing to do with packaging - and most are free!

My bud Natasha influenced me into ordering a box of wine. 1. Because I do anything Natasha tells me to. 2. I enjoy a nice red. 3. It was $100 off. If you want to get in on it, click this link for $100 off a box of wines which brings the price to around $7/bottle. Somehow my order came with extra bottles so they ended up being $5 per bottle. I’m certainly not complaining! (Be sure to cancel within 30 days if you don’t want to join the program).

More videos of Black people being murdered, harassed, and threatened made the rounds in the news this week. And this is just a handful of clips - racism stretches so much deeper than we see. Please read this very brief and illustrated Guide to White Privilege, the many examples of white supremacy, and 75 Things White People Can Do for Racial Justice. And then re-read them. If you want to learn how to combat your own racist biases, I can’t recommend this book enough. Read, then re-read those, then follow, then donate (see the civil rights category here and this Minnesota-based organization), then stand up and actively fight against racism. Full stop.

Speaking of taking action. If you live here in San Diego and have young kids, you’ve probably gone to The New Children’s Museum, a nonprofit I used to work at. I quit because I was sick of the way they treated their employees, so I was thrilled for the workers recently unionized for fair wages. But just last week, the management laid off the unionized staff in illegal union-busting. If you've gone to the Museum with your family, support the staff by writing to the management about it.

In less frustrating news… I’ve been ordering coffee from one of my local coffee shops and they included a free temporary tattoo. At first, I thought it was weird, but then I stuck it on Ross’ arm and he suddenly felt super cool. (Neither of us have tattoos - in part because we’re afraid of commitment). After it faded, I bought him a couple of temporary cat tattoos as a joke and I got this $4 floral one for myself. Neither of us are dressing up during quarantine, so this is a fun way to do something different - even though it’s cheesy/childish/silly.

Here’s my May playlist!

Well, I spent the day doing yard work and my feet really hurt. So now I’m sitting on the edge of the tub soakin’ my dogs which is now my bum sore. So, I’m off watch some good shows and make donations to organizations fighting police brutality in Minneapolis. Byeeee!
