Weekly Roundup

Hi, uhm, it’s me. It’s been awhile. I took a bit of a break from the blog, but I’m back. I’ve missed writing this series. What have you been up to?Here’s what’s been keeping me busy and some things that have been on my mind recently.

I’ve gotten back into sewing and made this bunny cape for Margot, started working on the Syd Tie Top, and I’m eyeing these zero waste patterns. I’m also trying to do more things with my hands such as making a doll for Margot’s birthday (got the supplies here and am following the pattern in a library book as well as this series of video tutorials) and gardening, too.

You’ve heard me talk about the important of lead safety for years now. So I naturally ran to buy this new $50 lead test that lets you test for lead over 3,000 times with one bottle. Results are instantaneous and its SO easy to use. I’ve gone around my house looking for lead, and my mom’s house, and likely will take it everywhere with me. Unfortunately, I’ve found lead on even newly-made things (not just the old stuff). I’ll share my results on Instagram Stories today, and you can see the creator of the lead test kit reveal lead on lots of drinkware at a thrift store here.

The comments in this post where people share the phrases their parents said to them, and the ones they say to their kids is so SO sweet.

We added a hammock stand and hammock to the backyard and we’ve all taken to it like moths to a flame. I imagine lots of summertime reading happening here soon.

Throughout Margot’s first year, we kept a book of milestones, jotting down facts, figures, and fun anecdotes in a simple baby book with prompts. At the end of the year, it was clear which parts of the book we liked and didn’t like, so I redesigned it to better fit us. First I printed it in this cheaper, smaller format book, but then it felt too special to not be cloth bound, so I printed it again. I used her monthly photos on each month of milestones. I’ll share it in Instagram Stories today. Now, I just need to do her year two book before she turns three this summer!

I used to hold our back door open with a shoe, so I upgraded to this hands-free door stop and I regret not doing it sooner. Is it the most fancy looking thing? No. But it works great.

I didn’t realize I was so behind on Call The Midwife, but I’m now caught up to season 13. What a heartbreaking and simultaneously feel good show. 10/10.

These sticker art books are a huge hit with my toddler.

My beeswax wraps from a decade ago were on their last leg (they should only last a couple of years), so I cut some excess fabric from curtains, and melted my own wax to make them custom fit to my baking trays.

I haven’t been keeping up with my monthly playlists now that my two-year-old is in charge of the song selections (luckily she mostly requests Jenny Lewis), but I have been adding some tunes to my annual playlist here.

Chocolate sardines!

All of my methods for remembering which seeds I planted have failed me, so I invested in this marker that won’t fade by the end of the season. Here’s hoping it does the trick.

Meal planning and cooking have never been a passion and I find them to be quite the chore. I picked up some cookbooks at the library such as this one and this one but I welcome more suggestions. Preferably in the pescatarian, simple ingredients, and easy to meal-plan departments. I have my eye on this one being released this October.

Happy weekend
