Top 10 Most Popular Blog Posts of 2019

It’s the last day of 2019 so it’s a good day to round up the top most popular posts of the year. Perhaps you want to relive your favorite posts? Perhaps you're new here and you want to see what I’ve been up to? Or maybe you couldn’t keep up with all of the blogs that all of our favorite bloggers are posting (guilty!)? This one’s for you.

I’m rounding up the top posts that I published in 2019. Not the most visited blog posts in 2019, because many of your favorites were published in 2018 - or even 2017! As a teaser, here are some of my most popular posts ever even though they hit the blog over a year ago:

  1. How to hide wires and all of my cable management tricks

  2. An IKEA hack for custom office storage

  3. DIY Kitchen flooring transformation with vinyl tiles

  4. Why our house smelled and what we did about it

  5. Master bedroom makeover reveal + video

Let’s take it from #10 and work our way to the top post, shall we?

10. Getting Our Home Historically Designated - Tax Savings, Renovation Rules, and a Plaque

I’m glad this post was a popular read because it’s important info to know about as I continue to mention our historic designation in years to come - because it affects all of our renovations! Take a read at the two posts (getting designated and an update on our status) to catch up!

9. The Plant Guide For Our Low Water and Pollinator Friendly Southern California Garden

Our garden is the bell of the ball for our local pollinators, our neighbors, and the local feral cats that like to hang out here. We’re proud of the way our garden is benefiting our world during our climate crisis and I love that you love that, too. You can learn more about what we did to get our garden from a pile of weeds and rubble into this floral beauty here. You can also read all of my sustainability posts here.

8. The Reveal of my $600 Kitchen Makeover

Lots of talk about my kitchen happened this year! We planned on remodeling it in 2019, but I hit some snags (see #6) - oops. Since the current iteration of the space was an ever-evolving makeover, there was never a true “reveal” until I started to demolish the kitchen. So, here’s the full reveal of the space I made over from a grimy space to a fresh and cute heart of the home. I’m curious what you all liked about this post so much - especially considering you’ve seen this version of the kitchen for over a year. Is it the budget makeover? Is it that anything with “reveal” in the title is thrilling? Or is it because I shared some never-before-seen angles and insight into this room?

7. A Q&A Video + Making a Pie

I LOVED putting this video together and I’m glad you like it to. You like me, you really like me! It’s definitely weird talking about myself into a camera, but I do feel more connected to you when I share my shoe size, the story of meeting Ross, my home goals, and just all the questions you had for me. I hope to do more Q&As and hope to still be an open book for you all in the years to come.

6. What’s Going On With My Kitchen Renovation?! I’m going to cheat and link to several of these blog posts because they are all popular but they all go hand-in hand. Here’s when I redesigned the kitchen layout and narrowed it down to two designs. And once I decided on a layout, I shared it with you in an easy-to-digest video walkthrough. Then time stood still and nothing happened with the remodel so I shared that I’m having a hard time making decisions and why renovations are slow. I promise a kitchen remodel is coming in 2020! I promise!

5. A Built-In Buffet Refresh

This post was one I published kind of on a whim. It wasn’t a DIY tutorial or an earth shattering life hack. It was just me sharing what I did in a weekend to give a little improvement in my dining room. And I love that you love the little projects. I plan on sharing more of these posts that are more of diary-style recaps of what I accomplished at home recently. Stay tuned for more of this style in 2020!

4. Clean With Me: Kitchen Edition - Plus My Zero Waste and Non Toxic Cleaning Tips

3. How to Fold Clothes the KonMari Way and My Take On It

You know I love organizing and I think the KonMari fold is just downright gold. If you haven’t tried folding your clothes into these little envelope shapes and had your life changed by being able to easily find that graphic tee, I highly recommend it. 2. The Best Way to Get Rid of Unwanted Things

This is definitely one of my favorite posts and I like reminding you about it. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, “Join your local Buy Nothing Group!” Seriously, do it. While you’re at it, review my other blog post about where to donate items when you’re decluttering.

1. My Favorite Online Art Resources and My Personal Art Collection

I’m surprised this took the number one spot! I get asked a lot about my art and get requests for art posts, but when I do, I get very little feedback that people actually like it. I feel so confused! Glad you like this super comprehensive post about all my art, though. You can see all of my art related blog posts here.

BONUS! Let’s not forget the Weekly Roundups! My Friday posts where I share inspiration ranging from design to movies and environmentalism to life hacks were among the most popular, too! Sit down with a big cup of coffee to peruse all of the Weekly Roundups.
