Weekly Roundup

Photographer and stylist Catrina captures the most gorgeous images of Sweden. This one above makes me want to turn off all the lights, light a candle, and stare out the window for 5 hours.

I’m in the market for an apron (to wear in my kitchen which should hopefully be done sometime in the next decade). But I can’t decide on the right style. Do I want a traditional one or a cross-back style or pinafore fit? Do you have a preference for what’s easiest, most comfortable, or more versatile?

San Diego just rolled out a ballot tracking program so we can see where our mail-in ballots are in the mailing/counting process. I just signed up here and it looks like the same program is available nationwide. Don’t forget to register to vote by mail, if you can!

Who else is excited about the new Miranda July movie?

I’ve been into the Nice White Parents podcast that just came out from Chana Joffe-Walt and the folks that brought us Serial. It examines and interviews parents surrounding a school in Brooklyn that has been attempting desegregation and diversity for decades. I’m hooked and can’t wait for the next episodes.

My friend Alison has been fixing up her cabin for three years all by herself and I’m so smitten with what she’s done. You’ve got to check out the before and after photos!

In the comments of my blog post about The Efficient Kitchen book, a reader shared the cost of kitchen items in today’s numbers based on inflation. Then, coincidentally, I found the Measuring Wealth website which helps us understand the relative value of items, labor, and income - all with a different lens beyond the inflation multiplication calculation. It’s surely interesting!

Jhánneu shared these great books on environmental racism. For ease, I collected them all here, and added a few more, too.

Friendly reminder that all the tools and products I use around the house are here and organized by category!

Our fig tree is producing handfuls of delicious fruit every day! Add some honey and brie and I’m in heaven. Is this not the epitome of summertime? I found some native fruits in a canyon near my house that I plan on foraging this weekend. I’ll go grab those and show you on Instagram Stories, too. Stay tuned! Are you familiar with the Falling Fruit app? It allows you to source and log fruits growing in public spaces that you can forage in urban environments.
