Custom Artwork in The Kitchen

The perfect piece of art didn’t exist, so I made it. Now the kitchen walls are adorned with a beautiful (yet odd) photo with a lil’ cameo by Margot!

We have a blank wall in the kitchen that when initially designing, I thought I’d hang open shelves. But then I shifted the plan to wanting vintage art rather than storage. Then I wanted art and a mirror. Then I wanted modern art rather than vintage. Then I wanted a print from a favorite artist. At the end of the day, I couldn’t settle on anything that felt just right, so I decided to make my own.

When we took a trip to the flower fields for some pretty family photos, I also snapped a few images of Margot amidst the florals with the goal of capturing an image we could hang on the wall and admire every day.

I narrowed it down to three contenders and posed it to my Instagram audience to weigh in. Option B was most popular, followed by C, then A.

I was looking for an image that was a little odd. Something that’s conventionally beautiful at first glance, but then a little weird upon closer inspection. Option A was the winner for me! Like, why is a baby sitting all alone in an empty flower field?

Option C was a fun experiment for me to play with photo editing to attempt to make the flowers look like an old dutch still life. I didn’t quite get it right, but maybe if I had, that would have been the winner.

And here’s the winning photo in all it’s glory. I got it framed at Artifact Uprising.

I can’t wait to share more of the kitchen soon!
