Weekly Roundup

It’s been yet another week of these weird weird times. I hope you’re all hanging in there!

Cass made this DIY sink stand and it totally fooled me into thinking it was store-bought! I have a very similar console sink in our bathroom and I rounded up some similar ones if you’re in the market. But DIYing it is also super slick.

When I shared how COVID-19 has been impacting our kitchen renovation the other day, I included a lot of disclaimers noting how much I recognize our privilege during this health crisis. Many folks messaged me to say I shouldn’t feel the need to defend myself and I’m allowed to feel the emotions I’m feeling. I totally get it, but I’m also in a perpetual state of checking my privilege and I’m an empath, so I can’t help but feel for those really struggling and share on a public platform that I’m not looking for sympathy. Anyway, all that so say I got a lot of recommendations to listen to this Brené Brown podcast in which she discusses comparative suffering. I recommend it! Speaking of checking our privileges, I highly recommend this book - you can even stream it for free right now.

I really like this philosophy of applying mise en place to our homes as a means of bringing calm to the chaos.

How are you doing on your spring cleaning goals?

My real-life blogger friend Cathy shared our home on her blog the other day and it’s always a treat to see my home through someone else’s perspective. We had planned on having them come visit us this past week, but due to COVID-19, we had to cancel. I look forward to the day when she can come hang out in the house in real life! It’s so fun seeing blogger friend houses in real life and inviting blogger buds into my own home.

I’ve seen multiple people on the internet mention this candlestick and I totally know why - such a great shape.

The Getty Museum is challenging folks to recreate a work of art from their collection using materials at home. I love the results seen here and here.

I finally sold our antique stove and it feels like the end of an era! She served us well, but we’re ready for a different size in the new kitchen.

I’m at the stage in the renovation when I’m making all of the teeny tiny decisions for things like the sound of the doorbell chime. I know, riveting stuff. I’ve spent the last few hours listening to doorbell chime options and I think I finally picked this basic one. We’ve done a lot of debating on if we want a smart doorbell, or a smart video doorbell, or an antique doorbell, or a vintage looking chime, or a basic one. We’ve settled on a basic chime with a non-smart doorbell, but I’m going to hack the chime so it’s cute. Stay tuned.

I’m off to try removing the stain from some marble, make some DIY masks, and make more teeny tiny decisions like where outlets should be placed. Happy Friday, or Wednesday, or Thurmontuesday - whatever day it is.
